Can celebrities ice skate?  We may soon find out.  ABC is looking to capitalize on the popularity of Dancing with the Stars as its trying to team up with BBC World Production to develop Dancing with Ice Skates.  The concept would be that celebrities would team up with professional skaters and perform ice skating routines.

This event has already been tried before when Fox had “Skating with Celebrities” in 2006 for one season.  In that season, stars like Debbie Gibson, and Kristy Swanson teamed up with professional skaters.  The show didn’t seem to take off with viewers, and was canceled after one season.

Unlike Skating with Celebrities, Dancing with Stars has been a big hit amongst viewers.  Many of the dancers have been using twitter to increase its popularity and even give injury updates.  Some of the stars this year include Aaron Carter, Chuck Liddell, Mya, Kathy Ireland and Donny Osmond.

Unfortunately, not many celebrities know how to skate, so it could be a while before Dancing with Skates gets off the ground, or ice.
