Funny People Leads at Box Office
It is mixed reaction from Hollywood for writer-director Jude Apatow who made the movie Funny People. The film is receiving mixed response from film critics but still it gains top slot in the opening weekend.
The Hollywood.com box office has clocked in $23.4 million higher than the film ‘The 40-year-old virgin’ that pocketed $21.4 million.
However, the ‘Funny People’ turned out to be the worst opening collection for its cast and as a comedy star Adam Sander. Just so you know, if you match with the openings of Sander’s other films including the Punch-Drunk Love and Reign Over Me, Funny People outscores all of them and is sure a winner.
It should be noted that the comedy drama ‘‘Funny People’ is made with a budget of $75 million, and the hope is that it will be able to make some return with this investment through better word-of-mouth publicity.
The Harry Potter’s most recent release Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince made a $17.7 million this weekend; however, this is almost 40 per cent fall from its previous weekend’s $255.5 million.
The guinea pigs of G-Force stand in the second place with a box-office collection of $17.1 million, which too is a drop of about 46 per cent as compared to its previous two weeks’ collection.
The drop in box-office collection continues with The Ugly Truth which had made a total of $13 million this weekend. The other two releases of this weekend are ‘Aliens in the Attic’ which lay in the 5th position with $7.8 million and ‘The Collector’ made $3.6 million and had dropped to 11th position. There are three other films as well that opened with healthy average and that includes ‘The Cove,’ ‘Adam’ and the ‘Thirst.’
Box Office collection is down by 22 percent as compared to last year when two movies ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Empire’ together made a whopping $40 million. However, milestone reached in this weekend at Hollywood.com boxoffice is ‘The Hangover’ that surpassed blockbuster ‘Star Trek’.
