The 16th century painting by Leonardo Da Vinci Mona Lisa was under the threat of being destroyed if not for the bullet-proof glass. The world famous painting, which is owned by the French government, was on the verge of being damaged. A Russian woman was held for making an attempt to harm the painting in Paris on Tuesday.

The woman tossed a ceramic mug at the painting and fortunately the bullet-proof glass saved Mona Lisa. The incident occurred right in front of the security personnel of the Louvre Museum. The ceramic mug rebounded from the glass pane and fell on the floor and broke into pieces.

A museum spokesperson told a British newspaper that there was no harm done to the painting and also explained that the painting is the most well-guarded piece of art in the world. The painting is supposed be protected with a specially designed sealed box other than the bullet-proof glass that keeps the painting safe from humidity and vibrations and a tea cup could hardly cause any kind of damage to the painting.

The newspaper also reported that the Russian woman was immediately held by the security guards. The paper stated that the woman had undergone psychological exams and the cops are also considering her mental state during the incident. The police spokesperson said that in spite of this consideration they are not ruling out the possibility of slapping criminal charges against the woman. One of security guards has informed that the incident took place on August 2nd but it was reported now.

The incident might have sent the Museum officials and the security personnel into a tizzy. But the security system has proved to be solid much to the relief of the officials and the connoisseurs of art all around the world.
